Whether you are at the start of your career development path, or part way to your goal, the world economic situation has to be a contributory factor in a number of decisions. Or so people will tell you. But why?

Choosing a career is easy in comparison to proving you are actually good at it. Success comes with considerable hard work, preparation and persistence. Your career success depends on how focused you are and how well you utilize professional career tools to fulfill your career goals.
Decisions relating to career enhancement can in part be the responsibility of a company and its employees. The responsibility of advancing in one’s career through the use of career development tools falls on the employees. Take the example of the guiding advice that is given at Hewlett-Packard Co., which is based in San Francisco: ‘you have to chart out your career; you influence its direction and timing.’ More and more companies are joining ranks to make a clear statement to employees: ‘make your own career growth, we can offer you the platform provided you do it right.’
