Fundraising is a big challenge, one that non-profit organizations, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), and other charitable organizations all have in common.
And all those money woes are not for lack of ideas and efforts. After all, fundraising ideas are as varied as they come – from candy bar sales to high-priced auctions. Charity Raffles
There is a growing trend in California by charities and non-profit and organizations in Orange County and elsewhere is to conduct raffles, but these are not your raffles of old. In fact, such raffles are often for homes worth between one and three million dollars. And if that isn’t enough, your local charity may soon be holding a poker tournament to increase their fund-raising dollars in these tough economic times.
In 2008, nearly 2,200 charities registered approximately 3,500 raffles with the Attorney General’s Office in the State of California. Not all of the raffles were for prizes as spectacular as a million dollar home, but there have also been charities who have failed to register their raffle with the state in advance of their raffle and some of the charities who have failed to comply with the rules have been referred to county prosecutors. Wall Street, Main Street, Easy Street there isnât any area of our country that hasnât been affected by the downturn in the struggling economy. Joblessness is at an all time high and many find themselves walking the streets looking for employment. The non-profit sector is no different that the private sector when it comes to joblessness, but there are some special issues to be considered in the non-profit job sector.
Those looking for work in the not for profit job market need to understand the factors unique to the current economy. First of all, non-profits are experiencing a decline in private donations as the downturn has tightened the wallets of many private contributors. People are âtucking inâ as they see their finances being stretched to the limit and fundraising is more difficult, as well, many families are appealing to the very services they once contributed to, such as food banks, and health care. Secondly, large corporation donations and matching funds have dwindled as these organizations find themselves in financial trouble. Large projects such as building may be on hold as the major funds dry up. Finally, non-profits that majorly rely on attendance or admissions for monetary resources are finding that people are cutting back on their extra excursions. Small museums and animal rescues, for example, are experiencing a decrease in attendance and small gift giving.

Did you know that where you shop for your dog can help raise funds for animal rescue non-profit organizations that rescue animals who are abandoned or surrendered? It’s true! Where you shop can make a difference in a dog’s life.
Something so simple as that. I did not realize this myself, until recently. But now, I will not shop anywhere else for my beloved dog Alana.
I recently saw a slide show about abandoned senior pugs. They are abandoned for many reasons. One reason is that as the baby boomer generation ages or dies, they can no longer care for their pets. So these old pugs end up in crowded cages in shelters.
The faces of the old pugs are gray, and their eyes are clouded, but the cataracts can’t hide their sweet eyes. Their backs are arched and their legs are bent, their steps falter. They have names like Mr. Harry, Butters, Pudge, and Goofy. Read more...
